Scope

1-1 This standard specifies a method for repeatedly passing 8.5g of engine oil through a specially constructed test rod in the form of a thin oil film under the oxidation and catalytic conditions of 285°C, and then measuring the deposits formed on the rod. Interlaboratory research has found that the applicable range of the Moderate High Temperature Thermal Oxidation Engine Simulation Test (TEOST MHT) is 10 mg to 100 mg, but experience shows that it is also applicable when the sediment mass is 1 mg to 150 mg or greater. 1-2 This standard uses patented instruments, methods and patented, numbered and regis ered deposition rods. The number can be traced back to the manufacturer. This deposition rod is specially made for the purpose and accuracy of this test method. 1.3 This standard uses the International System of Units [SI] units. 1-4 The use of this standard may involve certain hazardous materials, operations and equipment, but it is not intended to make recommendations on all safety is ues related to its use. Therefore, users should establis appropriate safety and protective measures and determine relevant regulatory restrictions before using this standard.
