Interpretation of Key Technical Indicators

The standard clearly defines that only particles with an ion mobility ≥ 0.4 cm²/(V·s) are included in the detection range. This threshold effectively eliminates interferences such as aerosols. Measurements should be made using a CMA-certified atmospheric ion meter, and the recommended sampling height is 1.5 meters (breathing zone height).


Background of the Standard

Based on continuous observation data from the Hubei Provincial Meteorological Bureau from 2013 to 2016 across 12 ecological zones, including Shennongjia, a study found a significant negative correlation between negative oxygen ion concentrations and PM2.5 (r=-0.82). For the first time, the standard established √N ≥ 1200 as the Level I threshold, reflecting the exponential growth characteristic of high-quality air quality.


Implementation and application suggestions

Construction of forest health care bases

According to the requirements of Level I standard, the site selection should meet the following requirements:
1. The proportion of trees is greater than 70%
2. It is more than 5km away from the pollution source
3. The continuous monitoring compliance rate is ≥80%

Improvement of urban air quality

Through three-dimensional greening, the level III area can be improved to level II. The measured data show that:
Vertical green walls can increase the concentration of negative ions by 210%±35%
Mist forest system can make the instantaneous concentration reach 1500/cm³
