Introduction

Standard Background and Technical Evolution

This standard establishes my country's complete space weather warning level system for the first time, filling the gap in standardization between solar activity monitoring and space environment warning. With the construction of monitoring systems such as the Fengyun satellite series and the Meridian Project, my country's space weather monitoring capability has developed from a single ground observation to a space-ground integrated monitoring network.

Analysis of core terms

TermsPhysical meaningMonitoring methods
Kp index Global geomagnetic activity index, reflecting the efficiency of solar wind energy injection Joint observation of the global geomagnetic network
TEC value Total electron content in the ionosphere, affecting satellite navigation accuracy GNSS dual-frequency receiver inversion

Comparison and analysis of warning levels

Warning levelKey Parameter Thresholds
Solar Flare (Fx)Proton Event (Ip)Geomagnetic Storm (Kp)Energy Electron Burst (Ie)Ionosphere (TEC)
Red ≥2×10-3 J/(m²·s) ≥104 pfu 9 ≥5×109 e/cm² 200 TECU
Orange [1-2)×10-3 [103-104) 8 [3-5)×109 175-200

Typical Application Cases

Solar flare event in September 2017: A X9.3-class flare (Fx=9.3×10-3) was detected, triggering a red alert, which caused shortwave communications in northern my country to be interrupted for 3 hours.

Geomagnetic storm in November 2021: Kp index reached 8, and the positioning error of the Beidou system increased to 15 meters during the orange warning period.

Implementation suggestions

  1. Multi-source data fusion: Combine the FY-4 satellite X-ray flowmeter with GOES satellite data for cross-validation
  2. Warning response mechanism: When a red warning is issued, the spacecraft safety mode should be activated and polar flights should be suspended
  3. Public science popularization: Establish an associated interpretation of space weather warnings and aurora observations
