Introduction

Standard Background and Significance

As the first special evaluation standard for farmland carbon sequestration technology in my country, this standard fills the gap in technical evaluation in the field of agricultural carbon sinks. The standard is based on the test data of equipment such as soil organic matter meter, and constructs an evaluation system with four dimensions: technical level, practicality, environmental benefits, and economic benefits.

Carbon sequestration calculation method

Case: North China Plain Straw Return to Field Project

Use formula (5) to calculate the carbon sequestration in a five-year period:

ΔCsoil = (SOC5 - SOC0) × 1.32g/cm³ × 30cm × 100hm² × 0.58 × 0.1

The measured organic matter content increased from 25g/kg to 28g/kg, and the annual carbon sequestration reached 68.4t CO2e


Implementation suggestions

  1. Preferably use Laser particle size analyzer and other equipment to ensure data quality
  2. Weight setting needs to be combined with local farming system (see Appendix B default values)
  3. The monitoring period is recommended to be ≥ 3 crop growing seasons
