Scope

The lightning protection type varistors specified in this section can be used as the main protection device against lightning surges. This part specifies the ratings, priority values, characteristics and quality assessment procedures for lightning protection varistors, and supplements relevant terminology, tests and measurement methods. This section applies to lightning protection type varistors used in DC power supplies or AC power supplies with a frequency not higher than 400 Hz to protect electronic equipment or other equipment sensitive to lightning surges from damage. The test severity levels specified in this section are quoted in the detailed specifications. and shall have the same or higher performance level when required, no reduction in performance level is allowed.
