Introduction
Technical Background of the Standard
This standard was developed to address the testing needs for polyester fiber blending ratios in imported and exported textiles, focusing on resolving the challenge of distinguishing chemically similar fibers such as PET, PTT, and PBT. The 2017 edition introduces the melt microscopy projection method for the first time, offering the advantages of non-destructive testing and simultaneous multi-component analysis compared to traditional chemical dissolution methods.
Core Testing Principle
| Fiber Type | Melting Point (℃) | Density (g/cm³) | Characteristic Distinguishing Point |
|---|---|---|---|
| PET | 255 | 1.38 | Highest melting point, birefringence 0.188 |
| PTT | 229 | 1.33 | Z-shaped molecular chain structure |
| PBT | 221 | 1.31 | Lowest melting point, elastic recovery rate 85% |
Typical application case: An exported blended fabric nominally contained 30% PBT. After testing using this method, it was found to actually contain 15% PET fiber, 12% PBT fiber, and the rest was cotton fiber. It was ultimately determined that the ingredients on the label did not match.
Key operation process
- Sample preparation:Take 200-500 fibers and spread them on a glass slide (thickness 0.15-0.25mm)
- Melting observation:Heat at a rate of 2-3℃/min to the target fiber melting point±1℃
- Image acquisition:Record the fiber melting deformation process under a 500x microscope
- Result calculation:Calculate the content of each component according to formula (2)(3) in Appendix A of the standard
Implementation precautions
- Temperature control accuracy must be ≤1℃, and a closed-loop temperature control system is recommended
- For PTT/
Repeatability CV≤3% 2.1% Reproducibility CV≤5% 3.8% Minimum Detection Limit 1% 0.7%
