Scope

This standard specifies the design requirements and test methods for steel sucker rods and short rods, polished rods and polished rod bushings, couplings and reducers, fiber reinforced plastic sucker rods, weighted rods, polished rod clips, seal boxes, and pumping tees in rod pumping systems. Specific product requirements are specified in Appendices A to H. Some requirements for thread gauges are included in Appendix I. Appendix J illustrates the components of rod pumping systems with diagrams. Appendices K to N provide specific examples of discontinuities in sucker rods, fatigue performance requirements and test methods for steel sucker rods, impact toughness of steel sucker rods, and code representation methods for sucker rods and accessories. This standard applies to the design, development, manufacture, inspection and testing of sucker rods and their accessories. This standard does not cover sucker rod guides, sucker rod rotators, shearing tools, disconnectors, stabilizer bars, sealing elements used in seal boxes, or the connection devices between seal boxes and pumping tees. At the same time, this standard does not include the installation, operation and maintenance of these products.
