Scope

This standard specifies the evaluation methods for corrosion-damaged pipelines in service. This standard is applicable to the evaluation of carbon steel and low alloy steel pipelines with external corrosion damage with smooth appearance and low stress concentration. Evaluation of corrosion defects or certain mechanical damage in pipelines. This standard can be implemented with reference to this standard. This standard does not apply to pipes that have suffered corrosion before or during installation or have serious defects in welds and heat-affected zones. The remaining criteria stated in this standard are based solely on the maintenance of structural integrity of the pipe when subjected to internal pressure. When there is a large additional stress, additional considerations should be made.
