Introduction

Core changes in the standard revision

Technical parameters Requirements of the 2014 version Changes in the 2024 version Significance of the revision
Instrument accuracy ≤3% ≤4% Adapt to the actual situation of on-site equipment
Balance sensitivity Undefined 0.01g Improve weighing accuracy
Preheating temperature Fixed value Pollution point +15~20℃ Enhance the adaptability of high pour point oil

In-depth analysis of technical principles

Yield value determination is based on the shear stress monitoring principle of coaxial cylinder rotational viscometer: When the crude oil temperature is lower than the wax precipitation point, the three-dimensional wax crystal network formed will produce structural strength. The yield value τy defined by the standard is the minimum shear stress (unit Pa) required to destroy the structure.

Typical application scenario

The yield value of waxy crude oil (wax content 18%) in a certain oil field was measured at 45℃ and was 32.5Pa. Based on this, the pipeline startup pressure setting was optimized to avoid wax deposition caused by structural damage.

Key Instrument Specifications

  • Rotational Viscometer: Shear rate controlled type must be used, Brookfield RST or Haake Mars series are recommended
  • Constant temperature system: Temperature control accuracy is ±0.1℃, Julabo FP50 constant temperature bath is recommended
  • Cylinder system selection: CC25 measurement system is recommended for high viscosity crude oil

Key Implementation Tips

  1. Sample pretreatment: After constant temperature of 80℃ for 1h, it needs to be left to stand for 48h to ensure the stability of wax crystal structure
  2. Shear rate setting: 0.2s-1 is recommended for automatic viscometer, and the minimum gear should be used for manual equipment
  3. Data rounding: retain three significant figures according to GB/T 8170

Comparative analysis of the new and old standards

Main technical evolution of the 2024 version: ① Delete the wax/water content determination step and focus on core parameters; ② Add the precision formula of the automatic viscometer; ③ Allow users to customize test conditions to improve the flexibility of the standard.

Quality control requirements

The laboratory should establish: ① Use standard oil samples for equipment verification every month; ② The difference between parallel samples must meet the requirements of formulas (2)-(5); ③ Abnormal data needs to review the pre-processing process.
