Introduction

Analysis of CJ-4 Diesel Engine Oil Core Standard

This standard was first issued by the China Society of Automotive Engineers and non-equivalently adopts international standards such as ASTM D4485:2018a. It is mainly applicable to modern high-speed diesel engines equipped with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) systems.

Key technical indicators

Sulfur content control: Strictly limited to ≤0.4% (mass fraction), cross-validated by 5 test methods including GB/T 17476, meeting the compatibility requirements of the National VI emission after-treatment system.

High temperature performance verification: The anti-wear performance is evaluated using the Cummins ISM method (NB/SH/T 0884), and the top ring weight loss must be ≤100mg, which is better than the CH-4 level standard.


Standard implementation recommendations

  1. Base oil replacement must follow the replacement rules in Appendix E of API 1509
  2. New formula development recommends focusing on testing T-12 (EGR) and C13 high-power test benches
  3. Avoid mixing with oils below CI-4 during storage

International standard differences

Compared with SAE J300:2015, this standard adds a new 20W-60 viscosity grade and adopts a modified version of the MRV TP-1 test method (-20℃ pumping viscosity ≤25000mPa·s).
