4.1 Venous blood sampling standards

Preferably select the antecubital veins (median vein > cephalic vein > basilic vein). Children should note:

  • Infants ≤4 months: scalp/femoral vein
  • Children ≥3 years: median cubital vein
  • Prohibited sites: medial wrist/lower limb vein
Special treatment: Patients receiving infusions need to have blood drawn from the contralateral limb, and fat emulsion infusions must be separated by 12 hours.
