Interpretation of the core content of the standard

This document specifies the standard method for determining the oxygen (0.0010%~0.020%) and nitrogen (0.0010%~0.020%) content in nickel-platinum alloy using the pulse-infrared absorption method and the thermal conductivity detection method.

Key Operation Points

Sample Pretreatment

Soak in acetone for 5 minutes and then air dry naturally. Weigh the sample accurately to 0.0001 g (0.1g±).

Instrument Calibration

It is required to use 2 or more national steel standard samples (oxygen and nitrogen content 0.001%-0.02%) for calibration. The blank value must be controlled within <0.00005%.

Precision Control

For detailed repeatability limit (r) and reproducibility limit (R) data, please refer to Chapter 10 of the standard. When the oxygen content is 0.0042%, r=0.0024% and R=0.0025%.


Technology Evolution Analysis

Compared with the traditional chemical method, the innovations of this standard are:

  1. Simultaneous determination of oxygen and nitrogen
  2. Adopting modern equipment such as TC-400 oxygen and nitrogen analyzer
  3. The detection limit is reduced to 0.1 μg/g

Implementation suggestions

  • The laboratory needs to be equipped with an oxygen and nitrogen analyzer with 1 hour stability RSD<2%
  • It is recommended to verify the graphite crucible blank value regularly
  • Pay attention to the melting temperature control for samples with high platinum content
