Introduction

Interpretation of the core content of the standard

Harmful substances Class A limit value (mg/kg) Class B limit value (mg/kg) Basis of detection method
Benzene ≤50.00 Not applicable YC/T 207-2006
Toluene + Xylene Sum ≤400.00 Not applicable YC/T 207-2006
Free formaldehyde ≤75.00 ≤500.00 Appendix A of GB 18583-2008

Technical key points analysis

This standard innovatively divides water-based adhesives into two categories: Class A is applicable to sensitive areas such as pharmaceuticals, food packaging and children's books, and Class B is applicable to ordinary printed packaging. In terms of heavy metal control, the lead (Pb) limit of 60mg/kg is stricter than the EU EN71-3 standard (90mg/kg).

Essence of the test method

When headspace chromatography is used to test benzene series, the sample weight must be accurate to 30.0-60.0mg, and triacetin should be used as the solvent. In the calculation formula C=m/M, the mass unit must be unified as kg to ensure accurate results.

Implementation suggestions

  1. Food packaging companies should give priority to water-based adhesives
  2. Regularly entrust CNAS certified laboratories to conduct special tests on halogenated hydrocarbons
  3. Establish raw material batch test files and keep them for at least 3 years
