Expansible graphite

1 Scope

This document specifies the classification and labeling, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation and storage of expansible graphite products.

This document is applicable to expansible graphite prepared by intercalation processing of natural graphite products.

2 Normative references

The following documents contain requirements which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.

GB/T 191 Packaging - Pictorial markings for handling of goods
GB/T 3520 Test method for fineness of graphite
GB/T 3521-2023 Methods for chemical analysis of graphite

3 Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

3.1
expansible graphite
graphite products prepared with natural graphite as raw material by methods such as chemical oxidation, electrochemistry, ultrasonic oxidation, vapor diffusion, and molten salt

3.2
expansion volume
volume of unit mass of expansible graphite after expansion at a specified temperature

Note: Its unit is mL/g.

4 Classification and labeling

4.1 Classification

Expansible graphite can be divided into high-sulfur expansible graphite and low-sulfur expansible graphite according to the sulfur content after expansion. The after-expansion sulfur content of high-sulfur expansible graphite (mass fraction) is greater than or equal to 0.120%, with code name KG, while that of low-sulfur expansible graphite (mass fraction) is smaller than 0.120%, with code name KD.

4.2 Labeling

Labeling of expansible graphite consists of product name, serial number of this document, and product code.
