Scope

This standard specifies the determination methods for total iron, soluble total iron, and soluble Fe(I) in boiler water and industrial circulating cooling water. The 1,10-phenanthroline spectrophotometric method is applicable for iron content ranging from 0.01 mg/L to 5 mg/L; if the iron concentration exceeds 5 mg/L, samples can be appropriately diluted before measurement. The 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline spectrophotometric method is suitable for iron contents of 10 μg/L to 200 μg/L. The flame atomic absorption spectroscopy method is applicable for iron content ranging from 0.1 mg/L to 5 mg/L; if the iron concentration exceeds 5 mg/L, samples can be appropriately diluted before measurement. The graphite furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy method is suitable for iron contents of 1 μg/L to 100 μg/L. This standard also applies the 1,10-phenanthroline spectrophotometric method and flame atomic absorption spectroscopy method for the determination of iron in surface water, groundwater, as well as industrial wastewater from chemical, metallurgical, light industry, mechanical industries, etc.
