Classification of coal genesis

Humic coal (2.29) is contrasted with Sapropeltic coal (2.30):

  • Humic coal: formed by higher plants in peat bogs through gelation, accounting for more than 90% of my country's coal resources
  • Sapropeltic coal: formed by lower plants in lake environments through sapropelization, such as algae coal

New resource/reserve classification system

The 2008 version introduced the United Nations UNFC classification framework and established a three-level system:

  1. Reserves (6.19): Economically mineable part, including mineable reserves (111) and proven pre-mineable reserves (121)
  2. Basic reserves (6.20): meet industrial index requirements, such as controlling economic basic reserves (122b)
  3. Resources (6.21): including inherent economic resources (331-333) and predicted resources (334?)

Special requirements for coalbed methane exploration

Newly added Adsorption isotherm curve (7.14) testing requirements:

  • Langemuir volume (VL) and pressure (PL) must be determined
  • The critical desorption pressure should reach more than 40% of the reservoir pressure
