Detailed explanation of test steps
1. Sample preparation
- Take about 15g of sample and dry it to constant weight.
- Weigh three samples to an accuracy of 0.1mg.
2. Nitric acid digestion
- Add nitric acid in a fume hood to allow the sample to react fully.
- If the reaction is slow, use a heating device to assist.
3. Filtration and washing
- Use a G4 sand core funnel for filtration and wash thoroughly with nitric acid and hot water.
- Precipitate polyisobutylene with anhydrous ethanol and set aside after drying.
4. Extraction of polyisobutylene
- Add tert-butyl hydroperoxide and reflux for extraction for more than 4 hours.
- Filter while hot, wash and collect the filtrate.
5. Calculation of results
- Calculate the polyisobutylene content according to the formula, accurate to two decimal places.
- The butyl rubber content is 1.03 times the polyisobutylene content.
