Scope

This standard specifies the content and composition of an identification code in order to establish an identification system for road vehicle manufacturers worldwide. This identification number (WMI) is the first part of the vehicle identification number (VIN) described in GB/T16736-1997. This standard applies to automobiles, trailers, motorcycles and mopeds specified in ISO3833.
