Scope

This standard specifies A and B methods for the determination of mercury in natural gas (including elemental mercury, dimethylmercury and diethylmercury). Method A specifies sampling at atmospheric pressure, absorption of mercury by potassium permanganate solution, subsequent reduction of mercury ions, and analysis by flameless atomic absorption spectroscopy. Sampling for 2h, the detection limit is 0.05μg/m3. Aromatics can interfere. If aromatics are present, method B is recommended. Method B specifies sampling at atmospheric pressure or higher, adsorption of mercury by silver/gold, subsequent desorption, and analysis by flameless atomic absorption spectroscopy. Sampling under the minimum pressure of 3MPa for 2h, the detection limit is 3×10-4μg/m3. Method A is used for the determination of natural gas with high mercury content (>0.5μg/m3), method B is used for the determination of natural gas with low mercury concentration (10-3~1μg/m3 ) determination.
