Scope
This standard proposes and describes a means to identify where new or revised manufacturing standards may be required. This standard establishes a reference model for shop floor production, which in turn serves as the basis for developing a methodology for identifying and extracting the content scope of the standard. The assumptions used to develop this reference model were that: The domain of interest is the manufacture of discrete parts, and in particular the production of these parts (physical realization); The reference model should be open-ended so that it can be modified to accommodate various new technologies, and • the reference model should be general so that it can be adapted to a wide range of applications and not be oriented to a particular organizational structure of manufacturing. It should be emphasized that the reference model • provides a conceptual model for understanding manufacturing and • can be used to identify the required scope of certain standards for integrated manufacturing systems.
