《GB/T 17180-1997信息处理系统 系统间远程通信和信息交换与提供无连接方式的网络服务协议联合使用的端系统到中间系统路由选择交换协议》由TC28（全国信息技术标准化技术委员会）归口，TC28SC6（全国信息技术标准化技术委员会数据通信分会）执行，主管部门为国家标准化管理委员会。

Scope

This standard is one of a group of standards developed to facilitate the interconnection of open systems. This set of standards includes the various services and protocols required to achieve this interconnection. The position of this standard relative to other relevant standards is determined by the layers defined in ISO 7498.1 and the structure defined in GB/T 15274. Specifically it is a network layer protocol. This standard allows end systems and intermediate systems to exchange configuration and routing information to facilitate the operation of network layer routing and relay functions. This standard specifies a protocol for maintaining routing information by network layer entities running ISO 8473 in end systems and intermediate systems (corresponding to ES and IS respectively). The protocol relies on providing low-level services in a connectionless manner ²). This standard specifies: a) procedures for transferring configuration information and routing information between network entities residing in end systems and network entities residing in intermediate systems; b) protocol data for transferring configuration information and routing information encoding of units; c) procedures for correct interpretation of protocol control information; d) functional requirements for implementations claiming conformance to this standard. These procedures are defined in terms of: a) the interaction between end-system and intermediate system network entities through the exchange of protocol data units; b) the exchange of subnetwork service primitives between network entities and lower-level service providers; interaction. This International Standard does not specify any protocol elements or algorithms to facilitate routing and relaying between intermediate systems. Functionality in this area is outside the scope of this standard.
