Introduction

Background of Standard Revision and Technological Evolution

GB/T17445-2022 is the core standard in the field of cast grinding balls. This is the first major revision in 13 years since the 2009 version. This revision responds to the demand of metallurgy, electric power and other industries for improved wear resistance of grinding balls. The main technological evolution is reflected in:

  • Material system optimization: Added carbide-containing ductile iron grinding ball grade ZQCADI
  • Refined composition control: Adjusted the element content limits of 6 grades in the chromium alloy series
  • Strengthened quality control: Added graphite structure requirements, and modified the inspection batch rules

Analysis of key technical requirements

1. Material classification and grade system

Type Number of grades Typical grades Chromium content range (%)
Chrome alloy white cast iron 7 pieces ZQ Cr26-ZQ Cr2 1.0-30.0
Ductile cast iron 1 piece ZQCADI 0.2-1.5

2. Core performance indicators

Hardness requirements: High chromium series (ZQ Cr26-Cr12) surface hardness ≥58HRC, ductile iron grinding ball ≥50HRC

Ball breakage rate control: High chromium grinding ball ≤1%, other grades ≤2%

Diameter tolerance: Increases from ±1.0mm to +3.5/-2.0mm as the specification increases

Comparison of key technologies between the new and old standards

Comparison dimensions 2009 version 2022 version Description of changes
Grade system 9 8 Delete ZQQTB/ZQQTM, add ZQCADI
Chemical composition Relatively loose Stricter Adjust the upper limits of Mo/Cu/Ni/P of 6 grades including Cr26
Inspection rules By furnace By tonnage Continuous heat treatment furnace is based on 10t batches

Implementation suggestions and application cases

Selection Guide

Cement industry: Recommend ZQ Cr15-Cr26 series, hardness ≥58HRC to meet clinker grinding needs

Mining industry: ZQCADI ductile iron grinding balls are suitable for medium and low impact conditions

Key points of quality control

  1. More than 6mm of surface must be removed before spectral analysis
  2. Hardness test needs to be carried out on the machined surface 2-3mm below the surface
  3. Grinding balls with diameter >90mm need special control of hardness uniformity

Impact analysis of standard implementation

After the implementation of the new standard, it is expected to bring three aspects of industry impact:

  • Quality improvement: Extend the average life of grinding balls by 15-20% through component optimization
  • Cost control: Cancel two ductile iron grades to simplify the production system
  • Testing standardization: Clarify the calculation methods of key indicators such as ball breakage rate and ball consumption
