GB 17513-1998 "Regal and Orpiment" national standard was formulated on the basis of extensive investigation of the current status of production, scientific research and trade at home and abroad. This standard combines the actual situation in my country and aims to unify the quality grading system of realgar and orpiment, and standardize its application in the fields of chemical industry, metallurgy, medicine, etc.

realgar ore and orpiment ore are mainly composed of arsenic disulfide (As₂S₂) and arsenic trisulfide (As₂S₃), respectively, which have important applications in the fields of chemical industry and medicine. For example, in traditional Chinese medicine, realgar is often used to prepare preparations for detoxification and dispersing nodules.

According to GB 17513-1998 standard, this batch of products must meet the quality indicators of superior products (As₂S₂≥90%), and the arsenic content must be tested by iodine titration or potassium permanganate method to ensure product quality.

Detection method:The laboratory should give priority to the iodine titration (arbitration method) or potassium permanganate method to determine the arsenic content to ensure the accuracy and traceability of the analysis results. For moisture detection, it is recommended to use the drying method and strictly control the temperature conditions (80±2℃).
  3. Packaging and storage:Products should be packaged in appropriate materials according to their quality grade and intended use. For example, high-quality products should be packaged in wooden boxes lined with kraft paper to reduce moisture loss, while flotation concentrates should be packaged in composite plastic woven bags (GB/T 8947).
  4. Safety precautions:Realgar and orpiment are both sulfide minerals that react easily with strong oxidants. They should be stored in a high temperature and humid environment and away from open flames.
