Introduction

Core parameter analysis

Parameter category Key indicators Selection points
Voltage parameters Uc, Up, UT Need to be 10% higher than the maximum continuous working voltage of the system, Up should be 20% lower than the equipment withstand voltage
Current parameters In, Iimp, Imax Class I test SPDs must meet the 10/350 waveform requirement, while Class II uses 8/20 waveform
TOV tolerance UTOV TT systems must withstand 1200V/5s, while TN systems must consider √3×U0

System adaptation principles

According to Chapter 6 of the standard, SPD installation must comply with the following:

  1. TN-S systems preferably use 3+1 mode SPDs
  2. TT system neutral-to-ground protection requires a gap-type SPD
  3. Class I test SPDs should be installed at the entrance of a building (such as DEHNguard series)

Technology Evolution Analysis

Main upgrades compared to the 2006 version of the standard:

  • Six new term definitions (such as multi-purpose SPD, residual current IPE)
  • Supplementary TOV test requirements (Appendix E)
  • Add short-circuit backup protection clauses (Appendix P)
  • Improve risk analysis methods (Appendix H/L)

Implementation Suggestions

Typical application scenario configuration:

Protection area SPD type Up requirements
Incoming line of distribution cabinet Class I T1 SPD ≤2.5kV
Equipment room power distribution Class II T2 SPD ≤1.5kV
Terminal equipment Class III T3 SPD ≤0.8kV

Note: The coordination distance should satisfy the V-shaped curve rule (Clause 6.1.3)
