Introduction
Interpretation of GB/T 18840-2018 Standard for Base of Asphalt Waterproofing Membrane
Background and Significance of the Standard
GB/T 18840-2018 "Base of Asphalt Waterproofing Membrane" is used to standardize the technical requirements and test methods of base materials in the production of asphalt waterproofing membranes. This standard replaces the previous GB/T 18840-2002 version. The main revisions include term definitions, classification and marking, physical and mechanical performance requirements and test method updates.
The formulation of this standard aims to improve the quality of asphalt waterproofing membranes and ensure their reliability and durability in building waterproofing projects. As the core part of waterproof membranes, base materials directly affect the performance and service life of the products, so this standard has important guiding significance for the industry.
Classification and Use of Base Materials
| Category | Polyester Felt (PY) | Glass Fiber Felt (G) | Polyethylene Film (PE) | Glass Fiber Composite Felt (GK) | Polyester Composite Felt (PYK) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Use | Used for Elastomer Modified Asphalt Waterproofing Membrane | Used for Asphalt Tile Base | Used for Polymer Film-Based Membrane | Used for Rubber Powder Modified Asphalt Membrane | Used for Polyester Reinforced Membrane |
| Characteristics | High strength and aging resistance | High temperature resistance and good tensile strength | Excellent waterproof performance | Composite structure enhancement performance | Combining the advantages of polyester and glass fiber |
Physical and mechanical performance requirements
According to different types of tire base materials, GB/T 18840-2018 stipulates a number of key performance indicators:
- Tensile force and elongation: Ensure the material's ability to resist stretching during construction.
- Tear strength: Measure the material's resistance to damage.
- Moisture content and water resistance: Ensure the material's performance in a humid environment.
- Thermal dimensional stability: Ensure the material's shape is stable under high temperature conditions.
For example, the tensile strength requirement of polyester felt is ≥450 N/50mm in the longitudinal direction and ≥350 N/50mm in the transverse direction; the tear strength requirement is ≥160 N in the longitudinal direction and ≥120 N in the transverse direction.
Test methods and implementation recommendations
Case study: tensile test of polyester felt
Under standard test conditions (temperature 23±2℃, humidity 50%-70%), the test is carried out in accordance with the sample size and quantity specified in GB/T 328.19. For example, the tensile test sample size of polyester felt is (250-300)×50 mm, and each group of samples needs to test 5 samples in the longitudinal direction and 5 samples in the transverse direction.
By accurately measuring the maximum tensile force value and calculating the elongation, ensure that the index requirements specified in Table 2 are met. For samples that do not meet the requirements, re-inspection is required to ensure product quality.
