3 Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply.

3.1
surface lifts
lifts that rely on the overhead wire rope as the drag device to transport passengers above the ground, the surface lift is generally in the form of a single line. The towing devices include T-bar type, J-bar type and disc type, and surface lifts are divided into high and low surface lifts according to the height of the hauling rope

3.2
high surface lifts
the surface lifts with a hauling rope more than 2 m above the ground

3.3
low surface lifts
the surface lifts with a hauling rope less than 2 m above the ground

3.4
towing device
a vehicle that can carry passengers and can automatically adjust its length according to the terrain

3.5
hauling rope
a wire rope that drives the vehicle

3.6
towing device spacing in meters
the distance between two adjacent towing devices on the line, in meters (m)

3.7
braking distance
the distance traveled by the towing device during the braking time, in meters (m)

3.8
reverse turn limiter
a device that prevents the surface lifts from sliding in the opposite direction

3.9
rope catcher
a device that supports the hauling rope when the rope slips away from the rollers of the surface lift

3.10
maximum gradient
the maximum inclination formed over a certain distance on the line, in %

3.11
horizontal length
the length of the horizontal projection of the surface lift from the starting station entrance to the terminal station entrance, in meters (m)

3.12
difference in level
the difference between the bottom elevations of the surface lift from the starting station entrance to the terminal station entrance, in meters (m)

3.13
sloping length
the straight distance of the surface lift from the starting station entrance to the terminal station entrance, in meters (m)

3.14
trestle
a structure used to support the wire rope on the line

3.15
roller
a sheave that supports the hauling rope

3.16
support rollers
a group of rollers used to support the hauling rope on the surface lift trestle

3.17
holddown rollers
a group of rollers on the surface lift trestle used to hold down the hauling rope

3.18
splicing of rope
the joints of the hauling rope, which are connected by braiding

3.19
rope grip
a device through which a vehicle is connected to a hauling rope

3.20
driving sheave
a sheave on the driving engine that drives the movement of the hauling rope

3.21
return sheave
a sheave that automatically returns when the vehicle passes through the end station
