ChinaStandards.net is in charge of this English translation. In case of any doubt about the English translation, the Chinese original shall be considered authoritative.

This standard is developed in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.

This standard replaces GB/T 19666-2005 Flame retardant and fire resistant wires and cables — General. The following main technical changes have been made with respect to GB/T 19666-2005:

——Optical fiber cables have been added to the application scope (see Clause 1);

——The definition of "low toxicity" has been added (see 3.5);

——The clause "General" has been added (see Clause 4);

——The designation of codes N, NJ and NS have been modified (See Table 1; Table 1 in 2009 Edition);

——The combinations of burning behavior codes of halogen-free, low-smoke and low-toxicity flame retardant series and fire resistant series have been added (see 5.1.2);

——The assessment indicator and test method of flaming droplets have been added (see Table 4);

——The acceptance criteria that "the flaming burning time on the sample shall not exceed 1h after removing fire" has been deleted (see Table 4 of 2005 Edition);

——The acceptance criteria and test method of NJ and NS have been added (see Table 6);

——The acceptance criteria and test method of halogen acid gas release volume and halogen content in halogen-free properties have been added (see Table 7);

——The pH and conductivity weighted values for halogen-free properties have been modified (see Table 7; Table 6 of 2005 Edition);

——The note "The minimum light transmittance test results of electric wires and cables or optical fiber cables with an outer diameter greater than 80 mm shall be multiplied by a factor (d/80) as the final conclusion" has been added (see Table 8).

——The acceptance criteria and test method of low toxicity have been added (see 6.5);

——The technical requirements for halogen-free, low-smoke and low-toxicity flame retardant electric wires and cables and optical fiber cables have been added (see 7.1.3);

——"The properties of fire resistant mica tape may refer to Annex C to this standard" has been deleted. If the fire resistant layer is between conductor and insulator, the thickness of insulation layer may be reduced, but the thickness after reduction shall not be less than 80% of the original standard thickness "(see 6.4 of 2005 Edition);

——The nature and contents of Annex A have been modified (see Annex A; Annex A to 2005 Edition);

——The nature and contents of Annex C have been modified (see Annex C; Annex C to 2005 Edition).

This standard was proposed by China Electrical Equipment Industry Association.

This standard is under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee on Wires and Cables of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 213).

The previous edition of this standard is as follows:

——GB/T 19666-2005.

3 Terms and definitions

For the purpose of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

3.1
flame retardance
burning behavior that after a sample is burned under the specified conditions, the flame spread on the sample only within a limited range after the fire source is removed, i.e., burning behavior of a sample to prevent or delay the occurrence or spread of flame

3.2
fire resistance
burning behavior that a sample can operate continuously under specified conditions when it is burned on a specified fire source and in specific period

3.3
halogen free
burning behavior that the content of halogen (fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine) in the gases released from burning is less than or equal to 1.0 mg/g

3.4
low smoke
burning behavior that the concentration of smoke from burning will not reduce visibility (light transmittance) to the degree adversary to escape

3.5
low toxicity
burning behavior that the toxicity and concentration of toxic smoke from burning will not cause the death of living organisms within 30 min

4 General

The burning behavior of flame retardant and fire resistant electric wires and cables or optical fiber cables shall meet the requirements of this standard, and properties other than burning ones shall meet the relevant product standards.

Electric wires and cables or optical fiber cables may reduce their original basic properties while achieving the purpose of flame retardance and/or fire resistance, or make some original test methods inapplicable. The parties to agreements based on this standard shall discuss or negotiate an appropriate solution, which shall ensure the safety and reliability of electric wires and cables or optical fiber cables during use while achieving the purpose of flame retardance and/or fire resistance. On the premise of not compromising the safety and reliability during use, the corresponding technical indicators or test methods may be properly adjusted.
