Introduction

Standard Overview and Technical Evolution

GB/T20975.5-2020 replaces the 2008 version of the standard. The main updates include: Expansion of measurement range (upper limit of spectrophotometry increased from 0.40% to 15.00%), Strengthening of safety warnings, Revision of precision data and Adjustment of sample weighing table. This standard keeps pace with the relevant ISO methods and reflects the technological progress in the field of non-ferrous metal analysis in my country.

  1. Sample dissolution uses a polytetrafluoroethylene beaker, sodium hydroxide-hydrogen peroxide system

  3. Constant weight needs to be achieved when burning at 1000℃ (mass change ≤0.0002g)

Precision control

The standard provides strict repeatability (r) and reproducibility (R) requirements:

  • Spectrophotometry r=0.0004%, R=0.0008% at 0.001% content
  • Gravimetric method r=1.00%, R=1.10% at 50% content

The laboratory should regularly use standard substances to verify the precision of the method.


Implementation suggestions

Case: An aluminum alloy factory detected a silicon content of 11.25%, and the result of the gravimetric method was 11.18%-11.32%, which met the standard requirement of r=0.38%. Key control points:

  1. The perchloric acid dehydration time is strictly controlled within 15-20 minutes
  2. Use medium-speed quantitative filter paper for filtration and wash until neutral
  3. Operate in a fume hood when treating with hydrofluoric acid

For samples with a boundary content of 10%-15%, it is recommended to use the gravimetric method as the arbitration method.
