Introduction

1. Background and significance of standard formulation

The potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata) is a pest that seriously harms crops such as potatoes, eggplants and tomatoes. It has a wide range of spread and is difficult to control. In order to standardize epidemic monitoring and ensure agricultural production safety, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China has issued GB/T23620-2009 "Potato Beetle Epidemic Monitoring Procedure".

This standard was proposed and coordinated by the National Technical Committee for Plant Quarantine Standardization, and the main drafting units were the National Agricultural Technology Extension Service Center and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Plant Protection Station. The background of the formulation of the standard includes:

  • The potato beetle has caused huge losses to my country's agricultural production
  • The urgent need to standardize epidemic monitoring methods
  • Promote the standardization of agricultural pest control technology

2. Monitoring areas and key points

According to the standard, potato beetle epidemic monitoring is divided into two categories:

Regional type Monitoring focus Technical requirements
Occurrence area Potato beetle occurrence dynamics and spread trend Fixed-point monitoring, key area investigation
Non-occurrence area Risk area investigation Combination of interviews and field investigations

As can be seen from the table above, the core of monitoring work lies in early detection, early warning and early control.

3. Monitoring methods and technical specifications

The standard specifies in detail the methods for monitoring potato beetle epidemics, including:

  • Interview survey method: Obtain epidemic clues through communication with farmers and agricultural material dealers
  • Field investigation method: Conduct on-site inspections of suspicious areas
  • Fixed-point monitoring method: Establish long-term observation points in key areas

The tools used in the monitoring process include magnifying glasses, stereo microscopes and digging tools, etc. The standard also places special emphasis on the standardization of sample collection and preservation to ensure the accuracy of test results.

4. Implementation Suggestions

In order to effectively implement GB/T23620-2009 standard, the following suggestions are put forward:

  • Strengthen training: Conduct standardized operation training for grassroots quarantine personnel
  • Improve monitoring network: Establish and improve regional monitoring system
  • Strengthen information sharing: Establish an epidemic information database to achieve data interoperability
  • Promote international cooperation: Strengthen joint prevention and control cooperation with neighboring countries

Through the above measures, the role of this standard in the prevention and control of potato beetles can be maximized.
