Introduction
Standard Background and Technology Evolution
GB/T 26243.1-2010 is equivalent to the ISO/IEC 16512-1:2005 international standard. In view of the current situation of insufficient IP multicast deployment, it proposes the Relay Multicast Control Protocol (RMCP) as an application layer multicast solution.
- High IP multicast deployment cost: Difficulties in transforming global Internet infrastructure
- Low unicast replication efficiency: Service quality drops sharply with the increase in the number of users
- Immature reliable multicast technology: scalability and congestion control have defects
Core Concepts and Terminology
| Terms | Abbreviations | Definition |
|---|---|---|
| Multicast Agent | MA | Intermediate node that relays multicast data |
| Sender Multicast Agent | SMA | MA directly connected to the sender |
| Receiver Multicast Agent | RMA | MA not connected to the sender |
| Session Manager | SM | Central entity that manages session relationships and topology |
Protocol Architecture and Functional Modules
Control Plane Architecture
RMCP adopts a layered design, mainly including:
- Session Management Layer: handles session initialization/release, member management
- Proxy Control Layer: implements path establishment and maintenance between MAs
- Data Transmission Layer: supports multiple transmission protocols such as TCP/UDP/SCTP
Comparison of Typical Application Scenarios
| Service Type | Communication Model | Typical Application | QoS Requirements |
|---|---|---|---|
| Real-time Simplex | Unidirectional Tree Type | Internet TV Live Broadcast | Low Latency |
| Reliable Simplex | Unidirectional Tree Type | Batch Software Update | High Reliability |
| N-Worker Interaction | Shared Tree Type | Video Conferencing System | Two-way Real-time |
Implementation Recommendations and Notes
Deployment Recommendations
- Network Planning: It is recommended to deploy in a network environment where the RTT between MA nodes is ≤50ms
- Agent Selection: SMA should be deployed in the same broadcast domain as the sender
- Session Scale: A single SM is recommended to manage no more than 500 MA nodes
Compatibility Description
The standard explicitly requires collaboration with the following protocols:
- ITU-T X.601 Multi-Peer Communications Framework
- ISO/IEC 14476 Reliable Multicast Transport Protocol
- IETF RFC 2960 Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP)
