Scope
This standard specifies a set of parameters for basic equipment for operation, commissioning, maintenance and diagnostics, and a coherent mechanism for implementing parameters defined by user groups and equipment manufacturers. This standard applies to transmitters, valves, binary devices, and other devices used in process control such as chemical, food, water/sewage, power stations, and basic industries. The PROFIBUS process control equipment profile stipulated in this standard is divided into two categories: Class A and Class B. Type A profiles describe the general parameters of simple equipment, the scope of which is limited to the basic functions during the operation phase. This basic set consists of process variables with measured value status (such as temperature, pressure and level), tag (TAG) name and engineering unit. The scope of the Type B profile is equipment used for process control, which is an extension of the definition of the Type A profile and covers more complex application functions for identification, commissioning, maintenance and diagnostics. For the relationship between parameters and different classes, see parameter definitions and conformance declarations (see 5.7).
