Scope

This standard specifies the general purpose cabling for residential buildings. A dwelling may consist of one or more buildings, or a building may contain multiple dwellings. The general cabling specified in this standard supports the following three applications: · information and communication technology (ICT); · broadcasting and communication technology (BCT); · command, control and communication (CCCB) in buildings. The cabling specified in this standard consists of one or more of the following: balanced cabling; coaxial cabling; optical fiber cabling. This standard specifies requirements for the design and configuration of generic cabling with respect to: a) structure and topology; b) minimum configuration; c) performance requirements for permanent links and channels; d) location and density of connection points; ) interfaces to application-specific devices and external networks; f) co-existence with other building services. Safety (electrical, fire, etc.) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements are not within the scope of this standard, but are covered by other standards and regulations, however, the information given in this standard may help to meet these requirements.
