1 Scope

This standard specifies the terms, definitions, specifications, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, marking, transportation, and storage for fiber reinforced polymer matrix composite core for overhead electrical conductors (hereinafter referred to as composite core).

This standard is applicable to fiber reinforced polymer matrix composite strengthening core for overhead electrical conductors.

a new material composed of two or more constituent materials composited through an appropriate preparation process, which not only retains the basic characteristics of the original constituent materials but also possesses superior properties that a single constituent material could not achieve

fiber reinforced polymer matrix composite core
round rod material composed of one or more fibers composited with resin materials

3.3
diameter
the average of two measurements taken in perpendicular directions on the same circular section

3.4
value f
the difference between the maximum and minimum diameters measured on the same circular section perpendicular to the axis

3.5
grade
composite cores are classified into two grades based on their tensile strengths, namely, Grade 1 and Grade 2

3.6
level
composite cores are classified into two levels based on their long-term allowable operating temperatures, namely, Level A and Level B

3.7
glass transition temperature
Tg
temperature at the midpoint of the temperature range where glass transition occurs

Note: The glass transition may be easily determined by observing the temperatures at which specific electrical, mechanical, thermal or other physical properties change significantly. In addition, the observed temperature may vary significantly due to differences in the properties selected for observation and the technical details of the test (such as, heating rate, test frequency, etc.). dynamic mechanical analysis, DMA
a technique for measuring the relationship between a material's storage modulus and/or loss modulus and temperature, frequency, time, or a combination thereof, under vibrational load or deformation
