Standardization of proper names

Proper names are the key part to distinguish geographical entities. Their selection should follow the following principles:

• Character limit: Proper names should not exceed 4 Chinese characters, and two or three Chinese characters are preferred.
• Word requirements:Use standard Chinese characters and avoid rare characters and non-Chinese characters.
• Naming methods:Famous names of Chinese geographical entities can be used through transplantation, derivation, evolution, etc.

Common name standards

Common names are used to distinguish categories of geographical entities. Their selection should accurately reflect the characteristics of the entity and follow the following rules:

• Accuracy:Use the standard common names in GB/T29633.1-2013.
• Avoid ambiguity:Ambiguous or colloquial common names are prohibited.
• Reasonable structure:The combination of common names and proper names should be logically clear and avoid incorrect word order.
