Introduction
1. Background and purpose of the standard
GB/T 32232-2015 "Children's Life Jackets" is a national standard of the People's Republic of China, which aims to regulate the design, manufacture and acceptance of children's life jackets for ships and offshore facilities. This standard was proposed by China State Shipbuilding Corporation and is managed by the National Technical Committee for Ship Outfitting Standardization.
The background of the formulation of this standard is mainly based on the safety needs of ships and the safety of children's water activities. With the development of the shipping industry, the demand for children's lifesaving equipment has increased, but there was a lack of life jacket standards specifically for children. Therefore, this standard fills the gap in the industry and ensures that children's life jackets meet specific requirements in terms of materials, structure and performance.
2. Classification and labeling
| Classification method | Specific type | Structural features |
|---|---|---|
| Structural classification | a) YB - vest-type children's life jacket b) YTD - pullover single-face children's life jacket c) YTLD - pullover children's life jacket with collar d) YTP - pullover ordinary children's life jacket | Vest type: clothes light, belt and clothes light bag; pullover type: floating rope and bag, reflective tape, etc. |
| Tag Example | Children's Life Jacket GB/T 32232-2015 YB (Vest Type) Children's Life Jacket GB/T 32232-2015 YTLD (Pullover with Collar) | - |
Case Analysis: Practical Application of Structural Classification
For example, a vest-type children's life jacket (YB) is suitable for children who need to wear independently, while a pullover with collar children's life jacket (YTLD) is more suitable for children who need additional protection and fixation.
3. Material and processing quality requirements
Material requirements:
- The wrapping cloth, straps and sutures must be resistant to sunlight and not easy to fade, and the color fastness must meet the requirements of GB/T250-2008 and GB/T251-2008.
- The buoyancy material must not be loose particles, and the tensile breaking strength must be not less than 140kPa.
Processing quality:
- The seam edge of the wrapping cloth must be folded inward by no less than 10mm.
- The visible seam must be no less than 3mm from the edge, and the end of the seam must be tied back.
4. Safety performance and test methods
| Items | Requirements | Test methods |
|---|---|---|
| Buoyancy loss | After immersion in fresh water for 24 hours, the buoyancy loss shall not exceed 5%. | Immerse the life jacket in fresh water and measure the weight difference before and after immersion for 24 hours. |
| Flammability | After 2 seconds of burning, the continuous burning time shall not exceed 6 seconds or there shall be no continuous melting. | The bottom of the life jacket shall be 250mm higher than the upper edge of the test plate and passed the flame test in an upright state. |
Case Analysis: Selection of Buoyancy Materials
For example, polyethylene (PE) foam plastics are widely used as buoyancy materials for children’s life jackets due to their flexibility and tensile strength.
5. Implementation Suggestions
- Manufacturers:Select materials strictly in accordance with standard requirements to ensure that processing quality and performance indicators meet regulations.
- Regulatory authorities:Strengthen quality supervision and regularly spot check children’s life jackets on the market to ensure their compliance.
- Users:Properly store and maintain life-saving equipment, and regularly check the integrity of accessories (such as whistles and position lights).
