Scope
This standard specifies three test methods for vanilla [Vanilla fragrans (Salisbury) Ames]: a) Determination of moisture content in vanilla bean pods and vanilla powder (4.1); b) Vanillin, vanillic acid, 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde, 4- HPLC determination of hydroxybenzoic acid (4.2); c) UV spectroscopic determination of vanillin (4.3). This standard applies to the quality assessment of vanilla (pods, bundles of pods, crushed vanilla and vanilla powder) and its trade. This standard does not apply to vanilla extract.
