Introduction

1. Background and significance of the standard

GB/T33324-2016 "Determination of heavy metal content in latex products - Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry" is the first standard for heavy metal detection in latex products in my country, filling the gap in the relevant field in China. The standard is managed by the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Rubber and Rubber Products and was officially implemented on July 1, 2017.

2. Scope of application of the standard

  • Test objects: latex products (such as gloves, condoms, etc.)
  • Determination elements: lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), manganese (Mn), zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), arsenic (As) and mercury (Hg), as well as aluminum (Al)
  • Test method: inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES)

3. Comparison of standard frameworks

Standard dimensions Scope of application Test method Technical requirements
Types of heavy metals 9 heavy metals + 1 metal element (10 in total) ICP-AES method Accurate to 1 decimal place
Detection limit 0.01-0.04 mg/L (see Table 2 for details) Microwave digestion + ICP-AES combined technology Repeated measurement error does not exceed 10%

4. Implementation suggestions

Actual application case:

  • A company used a microwave digestion instrument to process latex product samples and prepared reagents and calibration curves in strict accordance with standard requirements.
  • The test results showed that the lead content of some batches was close to the detection limit, and the production process needed to be further optimized to reduce heavy metal residues.
