Introduction

Interpretation of GB/T 33749-2017 National Standard of the People's Republic of China

Overview of the Standard

GB/T 33749-2017 "Guidelines for Benchmarking Water Efficiency of Industrial Enterprises" is a standard to guide industrial enterprises to conduct comparative analysis of water resource efficiency, aiming to help enterprises find water efficiency gaps and implement improvement measures by comparing with industry benchmarks. The standard was proposed by the Ministry of Water Resources and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and drafted by the China National Institute of Standardization and other institutions.

Core indicators of water efficiency benchmarking

Indicator category Specific indicators Industry benchmark value range
Water use efficiency Water intake per unit product, water intake per 10,000 yuan of output value ≤industry average level
Recycling Reuse rate, wastewater reuse rate ≥70%
Management efficiency Water metering equipment equipping rate, leakage rate ≤5% (leakage rate)

Background of Standard Implementation and Technological Evolution

As the problem of water shortage in my country becomes increasingly prominent, industrial enterprises, as major water users, urgently need to improve water use efficiency through standardized means. This standard is formulated based on basic standards such as GB/T 7119 "Guidelines for Evaluation of Water-Saving Enterprises", and combined with the progress of water treatment technology and management level in recent years, a systematic benchmarking method has been formed.

Actual Application Case

A manufacturing enterprise established a water efficiency benchmarking indicator system by implementing the GB/T 33749-2017 standard, and compared with the industry benchmark, it was found that its unit product water intake was 15% higher than the benchmark value. By optimizing the cooling circulation system and wastewater reuse technology, the company increased its water use efficiency by 10%, saving 100,000 tons of water annually.
