Introduction

GB/T 33920—2017 Overview of the Test Methods for Flexible Graphite Sheets

This standard specifies in detail the determination methods for ash content, fixed carbon content, thermal weight loss, sulfur content, chlorine content and fluorine content of flexible graphite sheets, and is applicable to the quality control and testing of related materials. The following will provide an in-depth interpretation of the determination principles, instruments and equipment, and test steps of each indicator.

Comparative Analysis of Standard Frameworks

Test Indicators Determination Principles Main Instruments Technical Requirements Allowable Error
Ash Determination The sample is burned to constant weight, and the residue is ash. Box-type resistance furnace, analytical balance, porcelain boat Sample mass is controlled at 1g~1.2g, accurate to 0.2mg. ≤0.5%:±0.05%
Fixed carbon content determination The difference between ash and volatile matter is the fixed carbon content. Box-type resistance furnace, double-covered porcelain crucible The volatile matter determination needs to be burned at 400±10℃ for 10 minutes. ≥1%:±0.2%
Sulfur content determination The combustion sample generates SO4^2-, and its content is measured by titration. Tube resistance furnace, sulfur absorption bottle, alkaline burette The mass of the sample depends on the sulfur content, accurate to 0.2mg. >500μg/g:±500μg/g

Standard formulation background and technology evolution analysis

Flexible graphite sheet, as a high-performance material, is widely used in sealing, insulation and other fields. With the expansion of its application field, the accurate determination of its performance indicators is particularly important. The formulation of GB/T 33920-2017 fills the gap in the domestic flexible graphite plate testing method and reflects my country's progress in new material testing technology.

The technical evolution of this standard reflects the following characteristics:

  • Improved equipment accuracy: The upgrade from traditional oven to modern box-type resistance furnace ensures precise control under high temperature conditions.
  • Method optimization: The introduction of advanced instruments such as spectrophotometers improves the detection sensitivity and accuracy.
  • Enhanced operation standardization: Standardization is achieved from test steps to data processing, reducing human errors.

Implementation suggestions

  1. The laboratory should be equipped with instruments and equipment that meet the requirements of the standard and calibrate them regularly to ensure measurement accuracy.
  2. Operators need to undergo professional training and be familiar with the measurement principles and precautions of each test indicator.
  3. In actual testing, it is recommended to record parallel test data at the same time to verify the reliability of the results.
  4. For high value-added products, it is recommended to use method B (determination of water-soluble fluoride content) to more comprehensively evaluate material performance.
