Introduction

GB/T 34219—2017 Standard Overview

GB/T 34219—2017 "Test Method for Tensile Strength of Refractory Materials at Room Temperature" is one of the important standards in the field of refractory materials in my country. It mainly stipulates the method for determining the tensile strength of refractory materials at room temperature. This standard is applicable to the testing of dense shaped refractory products and dense unshaped refractory materials, and can also provide reference for shaped insulating refractory products and insulating unshaped refractory materials.

Test principles and equipment requirements

Project Specific requirements
Tensile testing machine The indication error is within ±2%, and it can be loaded at a constant stress rate, and the breaking load is within the effective range.
Test fixture It can be directly clamped or wedge-clamped (as shown in Figures 1 and 2).
Vernier caliper The accuracy requirement is 0.05mm.
Drying oven Temperature control range 110°C±5°C.

Sample preparation and processing

Number of samples:Generally, it should not be less than 3, which shall be determined by negotiation between the relevant parties.

Size of shaped refractory sample:The length is 200mm~230mm, and the width and height are both 40±1mm. The sample preparation position shall comply with the provisions of GB/T7321 or be determined by negotiation between the relevant parties, and an original brick surface shall be retained in the length direction.

Size of amorphous refractory sample:The size is 160mm×(40±1)mm×(40±1)mm, and the specific shape can be determined by negotiation. Sample preparation is carried out in accordance with YB/T5202.1, and pretreatment is carried out according to the requirements of relevant parties.

Test steps and result calculation

  • Measure the sample size:Accurate to 0.1mm, record the width a and height b.
  • Install the sample:Clamp the sample on the test fixture, ensure that the clamping area is less than 45mm from both ends, and install it on the tensile testing machine and adjust it to the appropriate position.
  • Apply tension:Stretch at a constant load rate of 0.15MPa/s±0.015MPa/s, and record the maximum load F_max (unit: N) when the sample breaks.
  • Calculate the tensile strength:R = F_max / (a × b), and keep 3 significant figures for the result.

Standard Development Background and Technology Evolution

GB/T 34219-2017 was formulated based on the actual needs of the development of my country's refractory industry, aiming to unify and standardize the test method of tensile strength at room temperature and improve the accuracy and comparability of test results. This standard combines advanced domestic and foreign experience, absorbs relevant patented technologies (such as wedge-shaped clamping test fixtures), and verifies its scientificity and practicality through a large number of experiments.

Implementation Suggestions

Operation Points:

  • Strictly control the sample preparation conditions to ensure that the size meets the standard requirements.
  • Select the appropriate test fixture type and adjust the clamping method according to the material characteristics.
  • Accurately measure the sample size and record complete data.

Notes:

  • Keep the equipment calibrated to ensure test accuracy.
  • Maintain the testing machine and fixture regularly to avoid mechanical failure affecting the test results.
  • For special materials, the number and size of specimens can be adjusted by negotiation.
