Introduction

1. Background and significance of the standard

GB/T 34564.2—2017 "Cold working die steel Part 2: Flame hardening steel" is a technical specification for flame hardening steel for cold working dies, aiming to meet the needs of the mold manufacturing industry for high wear resistance and high strength steel. The standard was proposed by the China Iron and Steel Association and managed by the National Steel Standardization Technical Committee to ensure its scientificity and practicality.


2. Scope and applicability of the standard

This part applies to the ordering, production and inspection of flame hardening cold working die steel, covering hot rolling, forging and machining delivery steel. It mainly stipulates chemical composition, dimensional deviation, technical requirements and test methods to ensure that product quality meets the requirements of high-precision mold manufacturing.


3. Interpretation of key technical requirements

Chemical composition The content of key elements such as Cr and Mo must be strictly controlled to ensure the quenching performance and wear resistance of the steel. GB/T 223 series standards, spark emission spectrometry (see appendix)
Delivery status The steel is delivered in the annealed state to ensure the subsequent processing performance. Visual inspection + hardness test (HBW ≤235)
Macrostructure No obvious shrinkage cavities, inclusions, central looseness and ingot segregation must comply with the requirements of Table 13. GB/T 226, acid immersion test method

4. Implementation suggestions and precautions

Case study:When a mold manufacturing company purchases flame-hardened steel, it needs to focus on the following points:

  • Clear chemical composition requirements to ensure that the Cr and Mo contents meet the high wear resistance requirements.
  • Choose a suitable smelting method (such as electric furnace + vacuum degassing) to meet the surface quality and internal performance.
  • Perform ultrasonic testing before processing to avoid affecting the mold life due to internal defects.
