Background and significance of the standard formulation

GB/T 34735-2017 "Xingguo Grey Goose" was proposed by the Ministry of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China and is managed by the National Technical Committee for Animal Husbandry Standardization. The formulation of this standard aims to standardize the breed characteristics, body shape and appearance, and performance measurement methods of Xingguo Grey Goose, and provide a scientific basis for the selection and breeding of breeding geese.

As a local specialty breed in Xingguo County, Jiangxi Province, Xingguo Grey Goose has important economic value and cultural significance. The release and implementation of this standard will help promote the scale and standardization of the Xingguo Grey Goose industry and enhance its market competitiveness.

Xingguo Grey Goose Breed Characteristics and Body Appearance

Xingguo Grey Goose is a medium-sized goose species with unique feather characteristics. There is a gray bristle-like feather band from the top of the head to the back that gradually narrows, the chest and abdomen are grayish white, and the back and wing feathers are gray with white edges. The beak, eye iris and shank webs are all black, and the skin is white.

Adult male geese have a longer body, a large, round, black tumor; female geese have a shorter body, a smaller tumor, and most have abdominal folds. The goslings have gray down and a yellow abdomen. For pictures of adult Xingguo Grey Goose, see Figures A.1 and A.2 in Appendix A.

Growth rate and slaughter performance

Table 2 shows the growth rate of Xingguo Grey Goose under grazing and supplementary feeding conditions, indicating that its weight has reached 1 830~2 200 g (male goose) and 1 750~2 080 g (female goose) at 6 weeks of age. In terms of slaughter performance, Table 3 shows that it has a high slaughter rate (84~90%) and breast muscle rate (10～17%) at 70 days of age, which is suitable for meat.

Reproductive performance and measurement methods

Table 4 shows the reproductive performance of Xingguo Grey Goose. The age of the first laying egg is 240-270 days, the annual egg production is 35-40, and the egg weight is 150-170 g. The recommended male-female ratio is 1:(5-6), and the fertilization rate and hatching rate are both 85-90%.

The determination method is implemented in accordance with NY/T 823 to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the data.

Implementation suggestions and future prospects

In order to promote the development of Xingguo Grey Goose industry, it is recommended to:

• Strengthen the selection and breeding of breeding geese and improve genetic performance;
• Promote standardized breeding technology;
• Establish a quality traceability system for the entire industry chain.

In the future, with the evolution of animal husbandry technology, the Xingguo Grey Goose breed will be further optimized to provide the market with more high-quality meat and egg products.
