GB/T 34842—2017 "Footwear Chemical Test Methods Determination of Formamide" is a Chinese standard for the detection of formamide content in foaming materials in footwear and footwear components. This standard uses gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) as the core analysis tool and specifies the entire process from sample collection to qualitative and quantitative testing.


Background and Significance of Standard Formulation

Formamide, as a potential toxic chemical substance, may enter the product through foaming material residues during the footwear manufacturing process. This standard came into being to protect consumer health and regulate the safety of footwear products.

This standard was proposed by the China Light Industry Federation and is under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee for Footwear Standardization, fully reflecting the industry consensus and technical authority.
