Introduction

1. Background of Standard Formulation

GB/T 35463-2017 "Determination Method of Volume Density of Wood-Plastic Composite Materials and Products" is to standardize the volume density test of wood-plastic composite materials and their products and provide an accurate and repeatable measurement method. The standard was proposed by the China Building Materials Federation and is managed by the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Lightweight and Decorative Building Materials.

3. Instruments and technical requirements

Analytical balance: Accurate to $1~\mathrm{mg}$, used to accurately measure the mass of the sample.

Immersion container: A large-diameter beaker or other wide-mouthed container to ensure that the sample is completely immersed in water.

Immersion cage and weight: The metal wire (thin nylon wire) and the weight should be corrosion-resistant, with a smooth surface and regular shape, and the mass is sufficient to suspend the sample below the liquid surface.


4. Implementation suggestions

Actual application case:

A wood-plastic composite manufacturer adopted this standard for internal quality control, which significantly improved product consistency. Suggestions:

  • Regularly calibrate the analytical balance and thermometer.
  • Ensure the purity of the immersion liquid (distilled water, deionized water or softened water).
  • Strictly control the test environment temperature. It is recommended to use a constant temperature water bath.
