Introduction
1. Standard Overview
The National Standard of the People's Republic of China GB/T 35836-2018 "Technical Specifications for Identification of Cold Resistance of Sugarcane" aims to provide a scientific and systematic identification method for the cold resistance of sugarcane varieties under different freezing conditions. This standard is proposed and managed by the China National Institute of Standardization and is applicable to the field cold resistance identification of sugarcane to non-rainy freezing damage, rainy freezing damage and light frost damage.
2. Comparison of standard frameworks
| Standard dimensions | GB/T 35836—2018 | International comparison (such as ISO standards) | Local standards (such as Guangxi DB) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scope of application | Terms and definitions of sugarcane cold tolerance identification technology, field cold tolerance identification methods, cold tolerance surveys, and cold tolerance evaluation. | Mainly for the prevention and control of frost damage to cereal crops. | Focus on the protection of local specialty crops. |
| Core indicators | Green leaf area percentage, stem length frost damage rate, base internode frost damage rate, and theoretical sugar yield. | Leaf survival rate, degree of damage to the growing point. | Sugar content change rate, plant recovery ability. |
| Evaluation method | Grading evaluation method (B.1, B.2, B.3 tables). | Comprehensive evaluation based on physiological indicators. | Field test combined with laboratory analysis. |
3. Interpretation of key technical points
3.1 Cold resistance identification method
The standard stipulates key technologies such as test site selection, field design, temperature and humidity monitoring. For example:
- The test site should be selected in an area where frost often occurs in winter and the temperature in early April is suitable for planting.
- The plot area is 12~30m², and the number of effective stems is ≥80.
- The temperature and humidity recorder should be installed 15~25 days before the arrival of frost to monitor the canopy temperature and the temperature and humidity 1.5m above the ground.
3.2 Cold resistance survey indicators
According to different types of frost damage, the standard sets differentiated evaluation indicators:
| Frost damage type | Main indicators | Calculation method |
|---|---|---|
| Non-rainy frost damage | Green leaf area percentage, stem length frost damage rate | G_b = Σ(G_t / L_t × 100) × (1 / N_p) |
| Rainy frost damage | Green leaf area percentage, base internode frost damage rate | I_b = Σ(I_d / I_t × |
| Light frost damage | Green leaf area percentage, theoretical sugar yield | TRS = 0.4536 × (100 - (56.67F_b / (100 - F_b))) × (...) |
4. Implementation suggestions
Technical implementation suggestions:
- Select test areas that meet the standards and ensure the normal operation of temperature and humidity monitoring equipment.
- Lie down the plots in strict accordance with the field design requirements to ensure the sample size and number of repetitions.
- Carry out cold tolerance surveys in a timely manner before frost damage occurs and accurately record the data of each indicator.
Management suggestions:
- Regularly update the normative documents cited in the standard (such as GB/T 10499, GB/T 19566, etc.).
- Strengthen the screening and promotion of cold-resistant varieties, and establish a regional planting recommendation list.
- Promote the construction of standardized demonstration areas and promote the transformation and application of technological achievements.
