National Standard of the People's Republic of China GB/T 35872—2018 Cotton Sterile Seed Cotton
1. Overview of the Standard
This standard specifies in detail the technical requirements, inspection methods, marking, packaging, storage and transportation of sterile seed cotton, and is applicable to the inspection of sterile seed cotton processing, trading and use.
2. Technical Requirements

3. Inspection method
3.1 Sample preparation
One bale of sterile seed cotton is sampled for every 10 bales, and bales less than 10 are counted as 10 bales. After opening the bale from the upper part of the cotton bale, remove the sterile seed cotton on the surface and take samples A and B.
3.2 Quality inspection
- Color grade inspection: It is carried out in the cotton grading room, and the color grade is determined by comparing the text description of the color characteristics.
- Length inspection:Use the hand-pulling ruler method to calculate the arithmetic mean and the percentage of each length level.
- Foreign fiber inspection:Use the manual picking method to conduct qualitative inspection.
3.3 General quantity inspection
The foreign content inspection shall be carried out in accordance with GB/T 6499, and the moisture regain inspection shall be carried out in accordance with GB/T 6102.1 or GB/T 6102.2.
3.4 Inspection of the nominal weight of cotton bales in batches
Weigh each bale to calculate the net weight and the nominal weight. The formula is as follows:
W₂ = (W₁ - N × M) / 1000W = W₂ × [(100 - Z̄)(100 + R₀)] / [(100 - Z₀)(100 + R̄)]
Wherein: W₂ is the net weight of the sterile seed cotton in the inspection batch, in tons; W₁ is the total gross weight of the inspection batch, in kilograms; N is the total number of bales in the inspection batch; M is the average skin weight of each bale, in kilograms.
4. Implementation Suggestions
- Standard Training:Provide comprehensive training on GB/T 35872-2018 to relevant personnel to ensure understanding and correct application.
- Equipment Calibration:Regularly calibrate inspection instruments, such as roller length analyzers and balances, to ensure that accuracy meets requirements.
- Quality Monitoring:Establish a quality monitoring system to monitor and record every link in the production process.
