Introduction
GB/T 36060—2018 Standard Overview
GB/T 36060—2018 "Control Requirements and Inspection Methods for Bonding Process of Hardcover Books with Water-Based Adhesives" is China's first national standard for the use of water-based adhesives in hardcover book processing. This standard aims to regulate the application of water-based adhesives in the production of hardcover books to ensure product quality and safety.
Background of Standard Formulation
With the increase of environmental awareness, water-based adhesives have gradually replaced traditional solvent-based adhesives and become the mainstream. However, water-based adhesives have problems such as insufficient bonding strength and unstable initial adhesion in actual applications. In order to ensure the quality and safety of hardcover books, this standard came into being.
Technology Evolution Analysis
Compared with traditional adhesives, water-based adhesives have the following advantages:
- Environmental protection: non-toxic and harmless, in line with green publishing requirements.
- Stability: non-flammable and non-explosive, safer to store and transport.
- Economical efficiency: low cost, suitable for large-scale production.
Comparison of standard frameworks
| Dimensions | Traditional adhesives | Water-based adhesives (GB/T 36060—2018) |
|---|---|---|
| Environmental performance | High risk (containing solvents and hazardous substances) | Low risk (water-based formula, non-toxic) |
| Bond strength | High | Medium to high (same effect can be achieved through process optimization) |
| Initial adhesion | Stable | Need to be adjusted (the standard requires 2-3 minutes of initial adhesion time) |
Implementation suggestions
1. Raw material management:When purchasing water-based adhesives, it is necessary to strictly check the requirements of GB/T 36060-2018 standard to ensure that harmful substances such as phthalates, lead, and soluble elements meet the limit values. It is recommended to establish a raw material supplier audit mechanism and regularly sample product quality.
2. Production environment control:Maintain the production environment temperature at 23±7℃ and the humidity at 60%±20% to ensure the stability of adhesive performance. At the same time, pay attention to the temperature and humidity adaptability of cardboard and adhesive (at least 4 hours of adaptation time).
3. Key process parameters: The bonding width is controlled within the range of 3-6mm, with a tolerance of no more than 0.5mm; the initial bonding time is recommended to be set to 2-3 minutes. For the book cover hemming process, the hemming width should be kept at 12-15mm, and the width of each side should be consistent.
4. Quality inspection: In addition to conventional solid content and pH value tests, special attention should be paid to bonding strength tests. According to standard requirements, A4 copy paper is used for initial adhesion test (see Figure 3) to ensure that the paper is qualified when the torn area is greater than 80%.
5. Employee training: Regularly organize production and technical personnel to study the GB/T 36060-2018 standard, focusing on mastering adhesive properties, process parameters and quality inspection methods. It is recommended to introduce practical exercises to improve actual operation capabilities.
