Introduction
1. Standard Overview
GB/T 36168-2018 Turquoise Identification is China's authoritative standard for turquoise identification, which specifies the identification characteristics and methods of natural and optimized turquoise. This standard is applicable to the identification and grading of turquoise, and provides a scientific basis for the jewelry and jade industry.
2. Identification characteristics of turquoise
| Identification items | Characteristics of natural turquoise | Characteristics of optimized turquoise |
|---|---|---|
| Chemical composition | CuAl6(PO4)4(OH)8·4H2O | May contain exogenous fillers (such as wax, resin, etc.) |
| Optical properties | Light to medium blue, blue-green, slightly transparent | Uniform color, enhanced luster |
| Mechanical properties | Mohs hardness 3-6, density 2.4-2.9 g/cm³ | Hardness slightly improved after texture optimization |
3. Common optimization treatment methods and identification characteristics of turquoise
Filling treatment (Filling):Filling wax, resin-type adhesives and other materials into the cracks or pores of turquoise. Wax residues can be seen by magnification inspection, and the infrared spectrum shows that the ratio of the integral area of the C=O peak to the integral area of the OH⁻ bending vibration peak is ≤1.
Texture optimization (Texture Enhancement):Improve the surface structure of turquoise through high temperature and high pressure. X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy analysis shows that the potassium content is abnormally high, and the pH value of the extract is neutral to weakly alkaline.
4. Comparison of standard framework and technological evolution
Compared with the old standard, GB/T 36168-2018 has added new identification methods for texture optimization treatment (such as X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy analysis and pH value test) and improved the infrared absorption spectrum characteristics. These improvements reflect the progress of jewelry and jade testing technology.
5. Implementation suggestions
- Laboratory configuration:Equipped with infrared spectrometers, X-ray fluorescence spectrometers and other equipment to ensure the accuracy of identification.
- Staff training:Strengthen the training of technical personnel on new optimization treatment methods to improve detection capabilities.
- Standard promotion:Organize industry exchange activities to promote the application scope of this standard.
6. Background and significance of standard formulation
This standard was proposed by the Ministry of Natural Resources of China to regulate the turquoise identification market and improve the standardization level of the jewelry and jade industry. Its implementation will effectively curb the circulation of counterfeit and shoddy products and protect the rights and interests of consumers.
