Introduction
Interpretation of the National Standard of the People's Republic of China GB/T 36754—2018 Quarantine and Identification Method for Centaurea diffusa Lam.
1. Background and Significance of the Standard
GB/T 36754—2018 Quarantine and Identification Method for Centaurea diffusa Lam. is the first standardized quarantine and identification method for Centaurea diffusa Lam. in my country. The standard was issued in 2018 and aims to standardize weed monitoring and quarantine of inbound and outbound goods nationwide to prevent the invasion of foreign pests.
2. Core Principles of Quarantine and Identification
The quarantine and identification of Centaurea diffusa Lam. is mainly based on its unique morphological characteristics. Through visual observation and microscopic analysis, the following key features were focused on:
- Stem: erect or slightly spreading at the base, covered with dense long rough hairs
- Leaves: pinnately divided, entire and finely serrated at the edges
- Inflorescence: small capitulate inflorescence with many small flowers
- Involucre: imbricately arranged, with apical appendages thorny
- Achene: oblong ovate, dark brown, with yellow longitudinal stripes
3. Comparative analysis of standard framework
| Standard dimensions | Diffusa cornflower (C.diffusa) | Spotted cornflower (C.stoebe subsp.austalis) | Small-flowered cornflower (C.virgata subsp.squarrosa) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fruit shape | Oblong, 2.0mm~3.5mm | Oblong, 3.0mm~3.5mm | Oblong or elliptical, 2.4mm~4.2mm |
| Color | Dark brown with yellow vertical stripes | Dark brown to dark brown | Pale yellowish white with light vertical stripes |
| Pappus | Usually without pappus or shorter than 1.0mm | Multi-layer, outer layer is about 2.5mm longest | Several layers in outer layer, membranous in inner layer |
4. Implementation suggestions and precautions
Case analysis: During the actual quarantine work, a batch of imported grains mixed with achenes of Centaurea cyanus was found at a port. According to the standard requirements, the average sample was first prepared by the quartering method, and 1.0 kg was weighed for sieve inspection. After separation using a set of sieves with apertures of 5.0mm and 1.0mm, suspected involucres and achenes were detected. Through stereomicroscope observation, it was confirmed that its morphological characteristics were completely consistent with the standard description, and it was finally determined to be Centaurea cyanus.
Suggestions:
- Strengthen the training of quarantine personnel and familiarize them with the morphological characteristics of Knapweed
- Equip with necessary instruments and equipment, such as stereo microscopes and electric sieves
- Establish a long-term monitoring mechanism to prevent the spread of this weed
