Introduction

Technical Guidelines for One-time Fertilization of Corn

1. Background and Significance of the Standard

Corn is my country's largest grain crop, and its high and stable yield is crucial to ensuring national food security. However, traditional fertilization methods have problems such as irregular fertilization, excessive fertilization, and serious nutrient loss, and are in urgent need of scientific and standardized development.

This standard is under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Fertilizers and Soil Conditioners, and is applicable to the main corn-producing areas in the country, aiming to achieve precise fertilization, efficient yield increase, and environmental friendliness.

2. Fertilizer Selection and Type

According to the requirements of the standard, it is recommended to use slow-release fertilizers, sulfur-coated urea, stable fertilizers, etc. that meet national standards or industry standards. These fertilizers have the following characteristics:

  • Slow-release fertilizers: slowly release nutrients through chemical compound or physical action.
  • Sulfur-coated urea: made of granular urea coated with sulfur, with a slow-release effect.
  • Stable fertilizers: add urease inhibitors and nitrification inhibitors to extend the fertilizer effect period.
Fertilizer type Main features Scope of application Release period (d)
Slow-release fertilizer Nutrients are released slowly to improve fertilizer efficiency. Major corn producing areas in China. ≥60
Sulfur-coated urea Sulfur is evenly coated on the surface of the particles, and the slow-release effect is significant. Spring corn area and summer corn area. ≥90 (spring sowing)
≥60 (summer sowing)
Stable fertilizer Prolong the fertilizer effect period and reduce nutrient loss through inhibitors. Areas with poor soil or water retention. No specific requirements.

3. Key points of fertilization technology

According to the different growth stages and soil conditions of corn, the standard recommends the following fertilization plan:

(1) Calculation of fertilizer application amount

Taking nitrogen as an example, the calculation formula is:

$$ m_{\mathrm{F}} = \frac{m_{\mathrm{N}}}{\omega_{\mathrm{N}}} $$

Wherein, m_F is the actual fertilizer application amount (kg), m_N is the nitrogen application amount under the target yield (kg), and ω_N is the nitrogen content in the fertilizer (%).

(2) Seed and fertilizer co-seeding technology

It is recommended to use a seeding and fertilizer applicator to achieve one-time seeding of seeds and fertilizer. Specific requirements:

  • Seed germination rate must reach 95% or above.
  • Seed and fertilizer are sown at different locations, the fertilizer application depth is 8cm~10cm, and the seed sowing depth is 4cm~5cm.
  • The horizontal distance between fertilizer and seeds is controlled at 10cm~15cm.

4. Comparison of regional fertilization differences

Depending on the climate and soil conditions in different regions, there are significant differences in the one-time fertilization technology for corn. The following are the main characteristics of each region:

Region Sub-region Main characteristics Recommended nutrient ratio (N-P₂O₅-K₂O)
Northeast Spring Corn Region Cool Spring Corn Region Under low temperature conditions, it is necessary to choose fertilizers with a longer release period. 1:0.5:0.36
North China Summer Corn Region Northern Central Summer Corn Region High temperature and heavy rain, it is necessary to pay attention to the stability of fertilizers. 1:0.25:0.32
Northwest Spring Corn Area Oasis Irrigation Spring Corn Area The irrigation conditions are good, suitable for the use of slow-release fertilizers. 1:0.58:0.15

5. Implementation Suggestions and Future Prospects

To ensure the effective implementation of the one-time fertilization technology for corn, the following suggestions are put forward:

  • Agricultural machinery selection:Give priority to the use of seed and fertilizer seed drills that can adjust the seeding amount and fertilization depth.
  • Regional adaptability:According to local climate and soil conditions, the fertilizer type and application amount should be reasonably adjusted.
  • Technical training: Strengthen standardized fertilization training for farmers and technicians.

Future development directions include:

  • Further optimize fertilizer formula and improve nutrient utilization.
  • Develop intelligent fertilization equipment to achieve precise operation.
  • Strengthen comparative research and experience sharing of fertilization technology among regions.
